The point of the Inner Game of sports or music is always the same — to reduce mental interferences that inhibit the full expression of human potential

 -The Inner Game of Music

Barry Green, a double bass player, wrote a really illuminating book for musician:The Inner Game of Music. It primarily deals with the inner aspect when performing music: how should we control our mind, how to concentrate on our music, to play more beautifully and many more. These videos shows the ideas of the book. Somehow it gave personal enlightening. It made me change some of my false beliefs and conquer my fears. Hope it could help you too! Here’s the 2nd part.

Check out the recording studio of Hans Liberg in Hilversum, the Netherlands, built by Piet Hein Eek. The ultimate composer hut, if you ask me.

More here

This is a very cool and interesting recording studio! The simple yet aesthetic and functional design, the exterior design makes it look natural and blend with the environment, with the blue nuance in the inside, makes it feels like it’s cool and calming. I can imagine it’s a peaceful place to be, a good place to gain inspirations and to write some compositions.

Great inspiration :)

ITB Student Orchestra (ISO) - LADY GAGA (REMIX)

ISO is an Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) student’s unit orchestra (an extracurricular activity) which consist ITB students who loves music and want to learn about orchestra and other kinds of music. These students are not coming from music major because we don’t have any music major in our university. And many of them learn to play their own instrument by themselves.

This song is arranged by our friend Ulung, it consist some of Lady Gaga’s song.

Lisa Ono - Bengawan Solo

I love Lisa Ono, she’s one of my favorite bossanova singer.
She sings a song called “Bengawan Solo” it’s a popular Indonesian Song composed by Gesang. A song which inspired by a river in Indonesia name “Bengawan Solo” (The longest river in Java island). It was a beautiful song and I like this arrangement.

Singapore Trip (Part #1)

In this last June 2011, I went to Singapore with my college’s friends. We all have been to Singapore before, but on this trip, we went to couple different places that we’ve never been before. I’ll share it in case you want to go to Singapore. Here are some places I visited:

  • ARAB STREET

Arab Street Arab Street Sultan Mosque

It was a great place to look around. It has nice small pedestrian, I enjoyed walking around the area and took some pictures. Arab street has various stuff, specially textile, fabrics, clothing, accessories, muslim shops, there are also some restaurants where you can have sheesha, and some turkish food. There is a beautiful mosque called Sultan Mosque (You can see in my 3rd picture). I also heard that there’s a good spa in here. (But I didn’t check it out.)

  • Haji Lane

Haji Lane Haji Lane Haji Lane

If you are a fashion lover, you should check this place. It’s not like an orchard street shopping center, it’s a small street, where you can see there are many small buildings with two floor, and it’s colorful! So you can take lots of pictures here, the buildings are really interesting. There are many boutiques here, they sell clothing, dress, bags, shoes, limited-edition Nikes, I saw cute cameras like holga hello kitty edition in a shop there, watches, and other adorable stuff. It’s located near Arab Street.

  • Bras Basah Complex

Too bad I didn’t take picture of this place, because I was too busy shopping books! :p You can find used book (which you can get for 9.9 SGD or less), I really loved it! For students, you can also find text books here. They also have various stores like electronic stuff, stationary etc. But I went here to check out the used book, and also I for architecture/design students, and also for people who loves photography, like lomo, holga, etc, check out the “Basheer Graphic” store. You can find tones of books about architectures and design. Before you visit there, if you have any particular item you want to find, check out their website or just e-mail them. People who worked there are really nice and friendly.

  • National Library

National Library National Library

It was located beside the Bras Basah Complex. I really loved the architecture, the building is so beautiful! I checked out some interesting books there. And there was also an art exhibition there. I didn’t really spend too much time here, but I really enjoyed the exhibition, there were beautiful and interesting paintings, and installations.

  •  Bugis

Bugis

I think I went there too early, around 10 am, because lots of shops were still closed. I heard this is a place where you can find cheap bags, watches, and clothing. But I didn’t find anything that time, and I didn’t buy anything. I think this place looks like “Mangga Dua” in Jakarta, Indonesia. But maybe if you lucky, you can find cheap bags here.

I think if I put it in one post maybe it’ll be too long, so more to come.

Robert Schumann - Violin Sonata No.1 in A Minor op.105
First mvt. Mit leidenschaftlichem Ausdruck (With Passionate Expression)

I personally like Schumann’s works, this is one of my favorite piece.  When he wrote this piece, he was starting to had mentally ilness. He was hallucinating, some of the people said that he was given an order from heaven to start writing certain melodies, he felt he was being threatened by evils.
